Jim Coogan, author

This is a fundraiser for BHS. Thank you for your support!

Jim Coogan is a storyteller. He's collected accounts and tales about Cape Cod for more than a half century. Featuring characters and events from the Cape's past, Coogan will present an informative and often humorous reflection on the history and mystery of Cape Cod. As a Brewster native, his talk will be full of anecdotes about growing up in the town and remembrances of people and events that have made Brewster special. The core of his presentation will be centered around themes featured in his recent book, Cape Cod Passage: People and Events that have Shaped the Narrow Land.

Jim Coogan is a Brewster boy. He spent his formative years growing up on Main Street in the birthplace home of Cape Cod author Joseph Crosby Lincoln. He is a graduate of Brewster Elementary School. Like Lincoln, Mr. Coogan was influenced by the small-town atmosphere of a community that wasn’t all that much different than the Brewster that Lincoln had known as a youngster. He walked the flats, explored the woodland trails, and encountered memorable characters, much the same as Joe Lincoln described them in his many novels. Perhaps that is why Mr. Coogan has pursued stories about the Cape as a writer. Now the author of thirteen books, five of them for children, Mr. Coogan is today perhaps one of the Cape’s best-known historians.
